British Council Networking Seminar

The British Council is holding a Youth in Action networking seminar in Spain from 4-9 March 2008 and they're looking for participants now!

This seminar is designed to facilitate the setting-up and consolidation of an international network of organizations for the development of exchange projects related to the theme of Open-air activities, Education and Health, and for the subsequent valorization, evaluation, dissemination and exploitation of these projects.

The objectives are to promote the creation of a network of entities in different countries for the development of projects covered by the Youth in Action programme related to the theme of Open-air activities, Education and Health; to study the valorization, dissemination and exploitation, evaluation and visibility of each project once the period of financing from the Youth in Action is concluded; to hear about real experiences that have taken place and assist in the building of contacts between projects; to identify new strategies for developing future projects covered by the Youth in Action programme and to develop channels for future collaboration, to facilitate bonding between participants and to value diversity.

If you're interested in this exciting opportunity, please apply to pauline.bailey@britishcouncil.org no later than 22nd January 2008. Please note there is no financial support available from the SYP.

Welcome to Marie

This week saw the arrival of the latest addition to the SYP staff team. Marie MacFarlane has now officially started as our Networks and Training Officer. Many of you will have already met Marie at our Renfrewshire Sitting, and she is looking forward to getting stuck into the role! If you have any questions, suggestions or welcome messages for Marie, her email address is marie.m@scottishyouthparliament.org.uk

Hotdesking

Now our office is so full of staff we're starting a new 'hotdesking' policy so we know which desks will be free for MSYPs to use at which time.

So, if you're planning a visit to the SYP office please give us a call or drop us an email to let us know that you're coming. We want to make sure that if you visit us, you can have a desk in our section to sit at and we can give you the usual warm SYP welcome!

Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat and SYP staff and office bearers are looking forward to taking a well-earned break over the festive season.

The SYP office will be closed from 5pm on Friday 21st December until 9am on Monday 7th January. So if you have any questions for the staff team, make sure you let us know in the next couple of weeks!

Liam and Scott visit London

MSYPs Liam Beattie and Scott Mackay attended the CRAE (Children's Rights Alliance for England) AGM in London on Tuesday 20th November. Liam was doing a presentation along with other young people who had been involved in the Equality For All campaign. There were people from all over the UK at the AGM including a representative from the Scottish Government. Liam and Scott made sure they told him and others about all the great work the SYP has been up to recently!

The presentation had quotes from young people telling people how they felt discriminated just because of their age. Liam reports that it was a huge success and the MSYPs received lots of questions and  handled them well! The day was a huge success, with Liam and Scott's presentation being praised by the attendees of the conference as the best one of the day! Well done guys!
